Please help!

I am having trouble with my IE 6 freezing up. I was told it may be broken.
Can it be repaired? If so, how can I repair it? I am using 98se. When I go
to some web pages, the page freezes up. Example: http://oyc.yale.edu

TIA,

Angel

It may not be that simple but start with Repair.

Control Panel
-Add/Remove
-Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools
-Add/Remove
-Check "Repair Internet Explorer"
-OK

Thanks, Alan

I did that and am still having trouble with the IE6. Can't access that
website, http://oyc.yale.edu. Others too. That one I used to be able to
access but can't anymore. I don't know if they did something to keep out the
IE6. Maybe you can try it if you have access to IE6.If you can, I would
appreciate it very much. I would like to know if it is my machine, The IE6
freezes up on some of the sites.

I just fired up a Win98se machine with IE6 SP1
That site gives me a warning"
"There are known issues related to the display of the Open Yale
Courses website in Internet Explorer 6. We recommend using Firefox or
upgrading your browser to the latest version to view Open Yale
Courses. To continue using IE6, click OK"

It does load OK but I haven't gone any further past the first page.
(My old Win98 machine is a little underpowered at 64Mb RAM)

Alan,

You got further than I. All I got was a blank page. The page froze up. I
used the 3 finger salute and it came up with that page (Not Responding). So
I had to use "end task" Sometimes I even had to shut down the computer using
the reset button because the end task did not work. Why am I not even getting
what you do?

I am using Maxthon 1.5.6 with IE6 and http://oyc.yale.edu/ doesn't work
well here. The main text is missing and the YouTube and iTunes links are
also missing. So there might not be anything wrong with your system.
Just some web designers' feel that IE6 is obsolete and isn't worth
supporting anymore I think is the big problem.

And I ran IE7/8 for over a year. And both of them are so slow compared
to IE6 it is unbelievable. And I also tested stopping all hotfixes and
security updates on some test machines and I had very good luck running
them this way. So I restored this machine back to factory state and
don't plan on getting any updates for it ever!

I also ran Windows 7 RC on three machines here for a year and that was
just awful! As this machine alone went from 3% idle CPU usage to 23%
idle usage and the CPU increased in temp by 20°F hotter just by idling.
Worse, I used to run 100% of what I wanted to run. Under Windows 7 it
dropped to 95%. Plus all of my high demanding PC games ran so much
slower.

If you want an install for IE6, you can get one here.

http://www.oldversion.com/Internet-Explorer.html

So bottom line, newer isn't always better. ;-)

They are right.
If you are so stubborn to stay at IE6 and SP2, you deserve problems.

They are wrong Rob! And so are you! I had problems with IE7 and IE8 with
the websites I visit! Take titantv.com for example, it is so slow under
IE7 and IE8 that I have to wait and wait before I can scroll or page
through it. Yet IE6 is super fast at this site and other sites I visit.
So what is good about IE7 and IE8 Rob? And no Rob, I don't have any
problems since going back to IE6 and I have no interested in visiting
that IE6 troubled site either.

:Thanks Bill,

I would have replied to Rob's post but all I would have to say to him and
others like him is: They don't require an answer. They are trolls!! and want
to start an argument.

Back to the http://oyc.yale.edu site. I was able to get to the site using
the address: http://oyc.yale.edu/courselist but when I clicked on a course
I got the same thing as before, page name (not responding). If I did not, I
could search, help and other stuff. One place it told that you can use IE 6.
Just maybe an old FAQ page from last year.

I downloaded the "msie60.exe" but it came out to be a blank page with
"msie60.exe" under it to install it. Usually they come up with a page with a
file in front to install them. No, I did not install it. Now what?

Angel

Hi Bill-
I don't personally care what browser you use, but I have to point out that I
have IE8, and titantv.com is not slow at all. I can bounce between time
blocks, check details and scroll instantly. My point being that maybe you
have something else conflicting with your browser and/or that site. Do you
use Spybot Search & Destroy?
