Repeat install of update

I have Win XP Pro and one of the updates failed. When trying to
reinstall the update all goes thru the proceedure but nothing changes.
The old bad update is still there. Could it be that I must uninstall the
defective one before installing the new one?

Where is the "old bad update" ?
Which update are you referring to ?
