My home computer is constantly asking me to install the same definition
update for windows defender. It will download, then go to install, tell me
that the install has been successful then about a minute say that there are
updates available to install and it is the same update that was just
installed!!

Is this a common problem? And how do I fix it?
thanks

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
and then click OK.
2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs,
and then click Windows Defender.
3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow next
to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and
then click Check for Updates.

Found a solution that worked for me.

1. Uninstalled Defender, rebooted, re-installed
2. This should lead to signature 1.0.0.0
3. Ran Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}, and then clicked
OK. (This, I believe, removes existing signatures)
4. Opened Defender.
Click tak to the right of the questionmark and find "update"
5. Ran it and Defender was updated to latest signature.
