Hi All: I have replication set up between two 2008 std ed. servers (sp1)
that are also domain controllers for a small domain.

My DFS log is full of errors that recur once or twice an hour (or once every
few hours), followed two minutes later by a message like "The DFS
Replication service successfully established an inbound connection with
partner...". The error is below...what would cause the periodic loss of
communication between the servers?

Log Name: DFS Replication
Source: DFSR
Date: 4/12/2009 6:15:27 AM
Event ID: 5014
Task Category: None
Level: Warning
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: serverB.mydomain.xxx.xxx
Description:
The DFS Replication service is stopping communication with partner serverA
for replication group webanddata due to an error. The service will retry the
connection periodically.

Additional Information:
Error: 1722 (The RPC server is unavailable.)

Hello geekguy,

You are getting Error ID 1722 "The RPC Server is unavailable". Do you
currently have any firewall in place in your network especially from
ServerA? Do a repadmin /showreps on your schema master and post result,

Isaac

Hello geekguy,

did you have a "dirty" system shutdown due to power failure etc? Then this
link from technet might be good for you

Hi Issac...no, there's no firewall between the servers, or running on the
servers.

FWIW: I see the same results on serverB

Thanks for that link Isaac...in fact I did experience a dirty shutdown of
all equipment a few weeks ago during a power failure...but the technote
applies to 2003 R2, not 2008?

FWIW: I have not rebooted "serverA" since it restarted automatically.
