Everytime a new update appears it installs over and over until I just stop
clicking on it. My log shows them successfully installed more than once. I
see questions about this but no answers. Is there a solution except turning
off automatic updates?

Lorisfay,

I am also getting the same error specifically with KB931784. I tried
searching for a solution in the microsoft website and I'm not getting
anything; tried other websites with no luck. I will wait for a few
days more and maybe someone will post an answer to this question.

Edward

I have pasted from an email when I had this problem with another
update, as well as this one. It seemed to work.

Windows XP? Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:
\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB931784-x86-ENU.exe /o"

The parameter "/o" (o like OEM) should do the trick for you.

Keep it around for the next time. I am glad that I did. Just change
the update number when necessary.

Thank you for posting this reply. I was having the same problem with
KB931784 and it was driving me nuts. I tried uninstalling it and
re-installing it several times. I finally turned the update off simply to
stop the nag screen that kept telling me I had updates. I looked to the
newsgroup last and should have looked there first.

Thanks again for the help.

Yesterday, there were 4 updates and that KB931784 was one of them. They
installed properly on my desktop machine but came down 5 times for the
laptop that is connected via wireless router. I eventually in frustration,
uninstalled all of them and when rebooting KB931784 installed itself on
shutdown. At this point, I was ready to throw the computer against the wall.
When I rebooted, I almost immediately got the notification that there were
updates for the computer. I allowed them to come down but chose "custom" and
selected them all and the install went perfectly and the notifications
stopped......only thing is, for some reason, the process caused my wireless
router to have to be re-set before peer to peer networking would work again.

Yes, as above, the KB931784 installing successfully then nagging me over and
over to the point when I turned off automatic updates. I'm hoping that when I
turn on the automatic updates tomorrow all will be well again.

Assuming you're on Windows XP SP2:

Try downloading the update manually via DownloadCenter:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...d-a9f1eae19b51

*Save* the file to a folder your harddisk (let me call it "C:\Downloads"),
do *not* execute it from within your browser.

Afterwards type the following under "Run" in the Start menu:
"C:\Downloads\WindowsXP-KB9231784-x86-ENU.exe" /o

The parameter "/o" (o like overwriteOEM) should do the trick for you.
Note the blank between the last quote sign and the parameter /o!
</selfquote>

Bye,
Freudi
