repeated update, virus alert

i have windows xp 2003, with sp2 and windows defender. i'm getting very
annoyed because my windows update icon keeps repeatedly popping up even if i
installed the program, the thing is i don't want to install that program but
once i click on the icon it automatically installs it again. can someone help
please, i tried almost everything i could find on the support page and
everything, it just doesn't seem to stop please help

i just found out from my other post that it's a program pretending to be
windows update, it made me download a program called contra virus, i download
spybot but the problem is still there. any suggestions???? please help

do i find those files, do i search for them??? how do i unregister them?? if

As I said before:

This is NOT a Windows Update issue. Please take your problem to a forum
which specialises in cleansing infected PCs.

Hi "chell". You need more help than we can give you on this Newsgroup.

Try: Security - Viruses
OE client -

They deal with these problems all the time and will be able to assist with step by step
instructions if necessary or make suggestions on what you should do.

When you post, give as much detail as possible including what operating system you have
etc. Internet Explorer Version. Anything that will be of assistance.
