For several days I keep getting the Update Symbol as a yellow tray icon. I
have installed Security Update Microsoft.Net Framework V 1.0 Service Pack 3
(KB928367) and Security Update Microsoft.Net Framework V 1.1 Service Pack 1
(KB928366). It has installed these updates at least 7 times and yet I
continue to get the Yellow Tray Icon indicating that I have to install these
updates. I get them even when the computer is not connected to the Internet.

You need assistance from MS to resolve this.

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=906602

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or
anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot, AVG
Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before attempting
to install the update(s).

I can't complete this process. I fill out the form; I get a page with a
progress bar that says "Loading", but nothing else.

Gotta phone?...

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from
Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge for
support calls that are associated with security updates. When you call,
clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update and cite the
update's KB number (e.g., KB931678).

In other countries, see
http://support.microsoft.com/default...r=securityhome > "No-Charge
Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in right-hand menu
for localized contact information.

For more information about how to contact Microsoft for support issues,
visit the International Support Web site:

Same problem here with security update KB936181. Downloaded and installed
for the umpteenth time, everything went fine, no error message, but the
Yellow Tray Icon continues to show up and tell me to update. Indeed, even
when the pc is not connected to the internet.
I have XP, SP2. Please, help.

In my case the problem seems to have been that for the past
I-don't-know-how-many-weeks, this computer kept downloading a KB936181 file
which was 0 kb in size. After an awful lot of time on the phone, MS tech
support got me to download the file and install it 'manually' (IOW, not using
Windows update).

I'm afraid I can't tell you where on the Microsoft web download area it was.
She used remote to control my computer.

Anyway, it seems that you might want to try finding and dl'ing to install
manually.

What another time/money-wasting experience that was. All we really needed
was a patch that patched. Oh well, I'm sure tomorrow will bring another
hairpulling experience.

Good luck, jata. HTH.

Thanks! I left a note on a Microsoft site (don't remember which) after which
I was approached and helped by phone. Still don't know the cause of this
strange behaviour.

Thank you for your help. I'll make a print of the sites you mentioned.

I meanwhile contacted Microsoft through one of them (don't remember which.
though). I got e-mail assistance and was phoned at a later stage to learn
whether I had been successful. I was. indeed.

Cheers,
Jata
