Repeating Automatic Update KB920872

After installing KB920872 (it states that it was installed successfully), it
downloads again and keeps repeating after each install. The log indicates
there was an error during the install even though it appeared to install
sucessfully. Any solutions.

Hi Norm,

Go to http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html and download the current BelArc Advisor 7.2a and install it. Once installed, it gives you information about your computer and checks the Hotfixes. If it doesn't install properly, it tells you.

If it fails verification by BelArc click on Details. Download from the IT Professional Site it references.

Hi,

I have the same problem and I am looking for help also. In the meantime I
have made sure it is installed and I have gone into windays update an
expanded the update by clicking on the + sign and then checked the box
telling it not to notify about this update again. I have emailed Microsoft
help and support and am waiting on a reply. When and if I get any info I will
post again.

Same problem here. There must be quite a few. I am shutting off update for a
week. They will probably have it fixed by then

I'm having the same problem. I've installed it so many times it's not funny.
I even uninstalled it then reinstalled but same thing, keeps telling me I
need to install it. I went to Microsoft update and told it not to show it
again. Anyone finding out how to fix this I sure would love to know.

Open Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Is KB920872 listed ? If yes, then uninstall it.
Follow these steps as laid out by Eric Brodish, MS :

> 1. Download the update from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...n&Hash=7LFJN64
and save to the C:\ drive

> 2. Click on Start > Run

> 3. Type C:\WindowsXP-KB920872-x86-ENU.exe /o and click OK


NOTE: There is a space between the last e and the /

If it is not listed in Add/Remove Programs, then show hidden files,
folders, and system files:

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the WINDOWS directory (folder)
Open the $NtUninstallKB920872$ folder and then the spuninst folder
Run spuninst.exe to remove the incorrectly installed update
Then follow Eric's steps as laid out above.
