the new winamp full is great. you can open almost everything (via
plugin) except dvds, it's stable and light. for dvds i use media player
classic.

Try RealPlayer. I don't use it but it is an alternative.

My friend recommends WinAMP 10th Anniversary edition and Real Player
Rhapsody.

Icouldn't get WMP11 to play DVDs, so I got VLC Media player free from VideoLAN, and it plays dvds fine.

I have been very happy with WinAmp. My system is so much happier with
WMP disabled/blocked.

I bought a audio CD and I have no problem running the audio files on the CD
but if I transfer the audio files to the hard drive, Vista Windows Media
Player keeps asking me for a lisence!

You have to turn of the DRM(digital rights management) stuff, and it will
stop it for the stuff not already set under it.

Change your ripping format to MP3, and you will not have the licencing
(DRM) problems, even if you move the files to another computer.
