Just recently got an Intel Q6600 Quad core, just going to do a straight
swop with an Intel dual core Q6320,

Mine is a triple Boot system, will this destroy all systems, and mean a
re-install of everything.

Assuming that your motherboard supports the processor none of the
software will notice a thing.

Hi,

In addition to what you have been told, I strongly advise you to make
backups of any important data (and to verify the integrity of that data)
BEFORE you carry out your CPU transplant. Check the website of the board
manufacturer to see what CPUs your board currently supports and whether or
not you need a BIOS upgrade to support your new CPU. If you do, then follow
the instructions carefully to the letter. A mistake here can render your
board inoperable, so if you need to upgrade your BIOS you do so entirely at
your own risk.

I just had to do a BIOS upgrade to get my new Asus P5K-E board to recognize
a Q9300 so it is pretty common. Works great, though.

I replace an Dual Core E2140 with a Quad Core Xeon X3210 in this way
Vista rebooted fine. However, I had to manually get Windows to recognis
all 4 cores in Device Manager as it assumed it was still running a dua
core CPU
