Do I need partition magic to resize a partition or can I do that with Vista
Ultimate?

You can do limited partition resizing with Vista in Disk Management. I
would suggest BootItNG or Acronis over Partition Magic since Symantec bought
it.

Have heard a few bad things about Partition Magic
not working properly on Vista, I don't think it's ready/meant
for Vista, yet.

I use Acronis Disk Director.

As John said, Vista's Disk Management is limited in what it can do.

Yet? Isn't the last version v8? I used to use Partition Magic years ago,
but since Symantec took over Powerquest, I thought they stopped developing
it.

I think that the problem that people have with PM these days, is that the
last version was never designed to work with hard drives over a certain
capacity, although I do not remember what that value is. 137GB springs to
mind for some reason..

I forgot to mention that the another problem with PM is that the DOS
floppy/CD version will not know about chipset inbuilt controllers and
controller cards that were made in the last few years. In fact, it will not
know anything about SATA at all, unless the controller is put into IDE
Legacy Mode, AFAIK.

You're right, Symantec isn't updating PM anymore.
They buy things and let them die or kill them quickly,
just like they did to Sygate Firewall. Sygate Pro Firewall
was an excellent software firewall. Even the free Sygate
firewall was very good.

Under Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Disk Management if you
right click on a drive you see an option to shrink or extend a volume. I
have done this on a drive without problems.
