Restart After WIN Update Error Msgs

After downloading Internet Explorer Serv Pack KB 905915, I select Restart,
but am getting an error message:
-Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2;
then this "...%1 to %2" repeats;
-Windows could not upgrade one or more system files before starting.
-Windowsw may not start or run properly. If Windows failes to start, run
Setup again. Press any key."
Why, what do I need to do?

That error message is usually associated with Win 9x, especially Windows
ME, systems that have either Norton System Works/NAV installed. If that
is the case, please see this :

Computer stops responding (hangs) during setup when you install updates
