My last set of windows updates show a status of cancelled? I did not cancell
it explicitly. How do I restart or redo these updates?

Tried that. That does not seem to work as it does not list the updates that
are in the cancelled list from the last attempt when it builds the list of
updates.

Windows version?

And the cancelled updates are...? (They may have been superseded by newer
updates that you did install later or by updates being offered now.)

Windows XP Professional SP2

The cancelled updates are the 8 critical security updates released August
10th 2005, i.e. KB896727, KB899591, 587, KB893756, KB896423, KB899588,
KB890830 and KB894391.

Sudarshan, do you find any/all of these in Add/Remove Programs (make sure
you check the "Show updates" box at the top)?

Do you have Automatic Updates enabled?

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in Windows XP:

Thanks. I finally figured out that I needed to first install the piece to
authenticate genuine windows before it would show me the rest of the updates
when I was running Windows Update after the first one that seems to have
cancelled itself. So after I installed it and verfied the authenticity of
windows, all other updates installed.

Undocumented feature I guess!!
Thanks anyway.
