Restart fails after automatic updates

After running automatic updates on my primary work machine, the computer
fails to reboot. It runs through the boot process, to the logo screen, and
then a blank screen then restarts again.

Iâ€™ve tried pressing F8 selecting the best performance option not effect.
Also, tried selecting the optimal performance option without success.

Please help
