restart to finish installing updates?

Hi,

I recently installed new HP printer software to my computer. After plugging
in the printer and having the HP software update the drivers for the printer,
windows update then tried to install drivers over them. However, the
installation failed, stating that the drivers were in fact the same. I
recently tried to install a program and I got a message saying that windows
needed to re-start in order to finish installing updates. After multiple
restarts, the same message continues to show up. Windows update says that my
computer is completely up to date and the only update I can imagine would
still be trying to install would be the failed printer driver. Is there any
way I stop this driver from trying to install? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

The usual method with an HP printer is to install the software provided,
'then' plug in the printer at the point their software requests.
and not the other way round

Hello There,

Taking drivers from windows update is really a bad idea unless it are
drivers for MS hardware.

Use booting last known good configuration, system restore or a roll back on
the driver to undo the arrised problem.

If an updated driver is needed because the hardware does not function well
than go to the manufacturers website.
