Since yesterday, my PC has asked me to restart it to finish installing
important updates about 10 times. Surely they can't have had that many
updates?

Whats going on?

I'm not getting told of any problems installing updates, so don't get any
"installation error code"
I just get told "Restart your computer to finish installing important
updates" everytime i put my computer on.

Still having trouble with this. Its rather annoying as the automatic updater
tries to restart my PC, meaning I can't leave it on over night doing things.

I've also just opened up windows installer, and its telling me there I need
to restart. I did so, and it told me again to restart. I could have done it
100 times and still get told to restart.

How do I fix it?

A Windows Vista-based computer restarts repeatedly after you install a
security package: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935881/en-us

"SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You install a security package on a Windows
Vista-based computer. Then, you restart the computer. In this scenario, the
computer restarts repeatedly. Specifically, after you restart the computer,
the Windows Vista startup screen appears. However, the computer then restarts
instead of finishing the startup process."

It doesn't do that. It starts up fine, then asks me to restart, I can say
"No, ask me in 3 hours" and go about using my PC fine for 3 hours, when it
will ask me again. It isn't doing it on its own unless when it asks me, I
don't answer and the timer counts down to 0.

Thanks

Hello Mike,
Until you find the fix, perhaps you might want to change windows
update to "manual" instead of auto. Next time you do updating
(manually),do it one at a time, and if you are asked to restart, do so.
Then see if you are being asked to restart again and again on the same
update.

I've changed it now. I can't however search for new updates,as it tells me I
need to restart.

Hello Mike,
If it is not too long ago, do a system restore picking the date BEFORE
the problem arose. If you can do that, you will have a few updates
waitng to be installed ---again. Manually install one at a time. Some
needs to be restart, some don't. Do the restart when required. Then see
what happens. If it does not ask for restart again, go to the next
update, and so on. If you find one that keeps asking for restart, system
restore again. Then right click on that offending update and " Hide "
it. And so on and so on.
