What does this resolution notice say? Is it telling you that you are not
using the optimum resolution for your LCD screen?

You need to provide more info, what is the exact wording of the message?
When did it start?

The pop-up is as follows:
Resolution Notice
For best picture quality,
change the resolution to
1440x900
1:exit 2:disable

I have changed the resolution to the suggested 1440x900. These tired old
eyes cannot handle that small print so I change it to 1260x960. Also, the
cursor passes behind the notice box so the 1:exit and 2:disable are out of
the question.

You can probably also press 1 or 2 on the keyboard, or select the button
with the cursor keys.

OK, this message is from your monitor. The notice for "1:exit" and
"2:disable" means you are to push those buttons on your *monitor*, not
your computer. Don't feel bad - you are not the first one to make that
mistake.

You can put the resolution back to 1440 x 900 and change the size of
your text, icons, etc. if you like. Look under the "Personalize"
settings in Control Panel (sorry, don't have the Vista machine on right
now). Or just use the Help system and look for "change text [icon] size"
or the like. Or just disable the monitor's warning prompt by pushing the
monitor buttons.
