On Windows Vista HP I backed up all files used the Vista Backup and was
successful.
I just recently updated my computers CPU and Motherboard and re installed
everything sucessfully. Went back to system backup and restore because I had
to wip out all files when updating computer. I followed instructions on
restoring files but does not reconize the backup diskes and come back with an
error. I tried Advanced Restore and clicked Files From a Backup On A
Different Computer and the error reads Windows was not able to find any
backup set an E:\for the following reason: The disk structure is corrupted
and un readable. (0x80070571). Verify that this location is valid and
contains backups or try a different location. After updating the computer i
Did not set a restore point yet. Do I have to first set one before restoring

No version of MS Backup has ever been very good.
Looks like Vista has not changed that.

Best to use a 3rd party utility for backing up.

I generally do not use any backup software at all...but merely burn the data
directly to external harddrive
and also to DVD. If data are saved in an unachieved format ...the
verification process is completely uncomplicated.

That said...Please post back with the exact media you had used to store your
backup...
there may be a way to extract the data.

Start your PC in Safe Mode and run System Restore from there.
