restored recycle bin icon not operative

I was able to restore my accidentally deleted recycle bin icon to the
desktop, but now it does not graphically indicate when files are in the bin
and then when they are permanentally deleted. I even played with the full and
empty icon images available in the icon settings. Also created a shortcut bin
(same results there) and rebooted the system. Still, no hope. Any suggestions.

Tight click a blank spot on the desktop and choose Personalize.
Click Change desktop icons on the left.

Right click the Desktop > click Personalize > under 'Tasks' > click Change
desktop icons > uncheck 'Recycle Bin' then recheck it > click OK.

Had the same problem The solution that worked for me was to change the icons
to random ones hitting "apply" for each, and then to change them back using
the "change icon" button and manually selecting the originals rather than
using "restore default". Hope it works for you.
