Restoring Access to Folders Where Access is Denied

I'm suddenly finding that many folders and programs have "access is denied"
if I try to open them. I'm a sole user of a home computer with Vista Home
Premium SP-1. I have only one user account as administrator.

Is there a way to make a global change so I have access to all files and
folders?

I was working with a hardware manufacturer making many changes to try to get
one of their programs to run. I think somehow those changes left me without
access to many folders and programs.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How badly do you want that program? System restore to a time previous
to this will fix your problem, but then the program won't run.

Hi,

Access to protected system folders is automatically blocked unless you
self-elevate. I doubt that the software vendor made changes to increase
difficulty. More likely that they were trying to lower permissions so that
their software could run from its program folder rather than being
virtualized. Protected folders would include both the C:\Windows and
C:\Program Files folders as well as all of their respective subfolders.

Can you make a global change? To a certain degree, yes, but doing so may
also expose your system to potential infections from malware that can take
advantage of user privileges.
