Restote possible only in safe mode

Hi,
I can only restore my machine in safe mode. If I try restoring the normal
way, I eventually get an error message "an unexpected error has
occurred...,
the restore process has aborted" (or something of that nature...).
Although, at the end of the day, I can use previous restore points, I'd like
to understand WHY such a situation occurs?
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance
Jean

Probably because something is running in Normal Mode that is interfering
with System Restore. See MVP Bert Kinney's information about System Restore
to check if anything there is applicable to your situation:

Hi Jean,

It's an indication that some other software is interfering with the process.
The biggest violator of this is usually antivirus software (which often
doesn't load in safe mode, so is why the problem does not occur there).
You'll probably find that if you run msconfig and place the system in
diagnostic mode (which is a normal boot that disables all non-essential
processes), that System Restore will work then as well. To resolve the
issue, you need to isolate the interfering program and disable it. You can
use Task Manager to selectively end unneeded programs/processes, trying to
initiate System Restore inbetween.

Hi folks,
I did what Rick suggested. It didn't work, but I eventually got an error
message which I translate back into (my broken...) english.
It says:
"The VSS system which is used for restoration does not work properly. Have a
look at the journal of events 0x81000202"
I tried to "googelize" the error message: some people have got the same
problem, but no real positive response.
Who can beat Google?
Thanks in advance.
