I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I have a Kodak V610 camera and accidentally deleted some images from
the internal memory, I would like to resurrect that data but cannot get
Vista to see the camera with the 3rd party data retrieval software.

Vista will show the camera but in some kind of virtual way, so its not
like a USB drive and will not be eligible for scanning. Its like
plugging in a webcam or scanner, its not real.

I have connected the camera via its included USB cable and as I said it
shows up in Vista (The properties says "File System: Generic Flat") but
cannot get access to the internal data with a software recovery tool.

I have installed the Kodak EasyShare software but its not going to
help. So what do I need to do to gain access o that internal memory?

Thanks

Well, you can do that by plugging it into a Linux computer and bypassing
the easyshare software.

Great, a positive answer. I have OS X and Vista, I suppose I'd have to
create a partition on my PC to get Lunix right, okay well I have never
used it buts lets say I get it, how then do I bypass the easyshare
software etc...

I need to know exactly how to do this, I've never used Linux before.
This could be the reason I give it a go. Are you sure it can do what I
want?

It would be much easier to use a Live boot CD/DVD.

Knoppix is one that includes a lot of recovery tools.

I'm not so sure that it would be accessible from Linux, but it would be much
easier to use a Live boot CD/DVD.

Thanks. Would you believe it I have no CD or DVD and so will be forced
to boot the 700MB version off a USB, I don't suppose the tools I need
will be one that? Anyway, any tips how to work in the Linux environment,
I suppose the startup process is not too hard but then when in Linux
what exactly would be the course of action?

Thanks.
