Retrieving Error Messages

I've happily been using Windows Mail for a few months but yesterday for no
fathomable reason I became unable to send emails, although I can still
receive them.

I tried sending messages several times but they just sit in my outbox. When
I open them and click send, nothing happens at all. Only once did an error
message come up but I was on my way to a meeting and stupidly deleted it
before copying it to get the problem sorted on here.

I have not changed any settings, it still requires authentication and the
details are correct.

So my query is two-fold, can you either help me with my outgoing email or
tell me how I can retrieve an error message that I deleted 24 hours ago.

Thank you!

Open to your Outbox and move all messages that are in there to your Drafts
Folder, now compose a new mail message and send it to your own email
address.

Please report any error message by copy and paste back to this thread.

That deleted email may still be in your "Deleted Items" folder depending on
your settings for how that box is handled.

If you get an error message related to the sending, please copy and paste
the entire message (you may have to "Cancel" to get the entire error message
to display) so that more precise instruction can be provided - and your ISP
and email provider (part after the @ symbol).

FYI - many ISP's change email server setups from time to time. So, you may
now need to make changes to the servers, ports, authentication, etc., but
they usually send some notification that this is going to happen. AT&T
recently had some issues but I believe have resolved them now.

Let us know . . . . . .

Thanks Steve. I did as you suggested but one email that is in my outbox but I
know was actually received by the recipient I cannot do anything with.
Whenever I try to move it I just get an "unknown error has occurred" message
(the problems seemed to occur at around the time this email was being sent
originally, though, the recipient is a friend who I have sent/received mails
from many times without issue).

All the other messages I moved to my drafts folder immediately vanished -
not in drafts, deleted etc.

I have just tried to send another email to myself but, again, it is now just
sat in my outbox, no error message appeared.

Try the tool WMUtil available here:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx

this could possibly repair that corruption?

Read the instructions.

Pleased to hear that, and thanks for the feedback.

Kudos for the solution goes to Dr Steve Cochran MS-MVP. (Mail), who wrote
the program and provides it free to use.
