Right alligned menu boxes - why? How ro repair?

Using Vista ultimate. For some reason the menu boxes (the drop-down boxes
containing menu items) are right alligned to the top menu item. Menu items
themselves are left alligned as they should be. And as the menu boxes should
also be.

It seems as if the system uses some oriental (right to left) setup for
menuboxes.

The why question is not so important, I'd like to get this behaviour fixed.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
