Hi.
I've just done a factory restore of Vista H P and re-installed my apps,
including MS Office 2007. But when I right click the desktop and choose
'new' I don't see a Word document as one of the options. Excel. Access,
Publisher etc are there but not the one I need most often - and which i had
before the restore. Anyone have any ideas on getting it back????
TIA.
Bill

Thanks for that but the following message comes up when I try to merge:

Cannot import C:\Desktop\Newdocx.reg: the specified file is not a registry
script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry
editor.

Looking in the registry at
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.docx\Word.Document.12\ShellNew], "NullFile" displays
REG_SZ under Type and the value column is blank. Should I delete REG_SZ ??

Is this a related issue? Looking at some of my reinstalled Word files, I
have a mix of files named under 'Type' as "Microsoft Office Word 97-2003
Document", (presumably .doc files) and later files named under 'Type' as
"DOCX File" but with an icon unlike any version of the Word icon; it looks
like a pale blue square within a grey bordered square, somewhat smaller than
the normal Word icon and opens as code, of which the following is a small
sample.

[=pHG*G"<"eoadtbG*haSr&1Z Izk#Zr'"сzGl5fX@?PYz .\ ~<u^#n&,8-gJ"~<5>ͽV?,:''EnSfm,Z
HJSk&ht,n6Pvl"^'P?,1OZQi FaY)OQ'?"x?4r?Q\~]_+\4O.i!>:ʍs͹w[>!'Cg,b&~k?+Q7n^Y71)gY (c?IZ,0ul*(5J3-tl U?~jL;Iu-c^d!WR?ײ5?lRE33ӧ~4:ϽB"x= Jz>F#+*"+b/Y?4,[uQyw~N

I had to choose 'open with' and nominate Word as the default app to make the
Word icon reappear and the files open normally when clicked. I don't
remember having these problems last time I did a factory restore 2 or 3
years ago and wonder what has cause them this time?

Office Diagnostics was run but found no problems. Is this a Vista home
Premium or Office problem do you think?
