Hi, I have upgraded from Win ME to XP SP1 and then SP2.
It's gone relatively well and I am chasing down some annoying issues. The
two I am having least luck in fixing are:
1. Right mouse click on desktop causes system to freeze and generates a lot
of disk activity. System eventually comes back after a few minutes. It's like
it's trying to switch users (I only have 1 set up).
2. In the file Explorer, click on C drive and then click on the File menu
causes Explorer to hang. Need to kill this app. All other menus are fine.
I have followed all the threads I can find and tried all the recipes, but no
luck. This includes scanning for spy/ad ware, uninstalling DIV/X,
re-registering DLLs, creating a new user, disabling extensions, etc. I first
saw this after putting SP1 on (didn't test with vanilla XP) and hoped SP2
would fix it. But not. I thought it could be the mouse but I tried 2
different ones (both Logitech, one cordeless the other not). Same story. I
also downloaded the latest Windows XP updates, still no change.
Any ideas? It's quite annoying not being able to create new folders, which
is the biggest need at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any more ideas.
