right click send to desktop missing

I thought finding this answer would be easy...well 20 minutes later I
decided to just ask here..

When I right click on a file and want to send to desktop create shortcut
option is not there... I followed directions for a fix but ended up with
send to desktop, which is nice but that just copies it to the desktop, not
just creating the shortcut..
So how do I fix this.. thanks
