I found this in the same area and the problem i have ia the same as Curts but
the problem seemed similar to the one Steven had a solution to so i tried it.
I found 3 verclsid.exe files and renamed them verclsidold.exe
reboted my system and the right mouse button click on my desktop no longer
locks me up. steven's fix below
"Steven,
My experience with this nightmare since yesterday may be of interest to you
and others. I tried the system restore feature which did nothing other than
remove the updates from the add/remove programs list. Even if you remove the
restore point, the updates still do not list. As a result, now you cant
remove the update, which wont really remove anyway.
I followed another suggestion and renamed the file verclsid.exe to
verclsidold.exe which has solved all of my immediate problems, which were
centered around IE locking up and the inability to navigate.
Hopefully this may assist you until Microsoft gets out of their coffee
break. I noticed that the update website still wants me to install 908531.
Are they listening?"

Check whether you have HP Share-to-web application installed.

I have an Nvidia graphics card. Using ShellExView to disable the Nview
desktop option in the desktop's context menu resolved the problem.

Renaming verclsid at least temporary fixes the problem although
kb908531 wants to install again. Btw I do not have HP share to
web installed.
