Ripping CD's

I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3) and
Media Player 11. I have been Ripping CD's for ages and had no problems.
However, all of the sudden when I try to rip cd's under Rip Status it just
says "Error" and won't rip. If I right click and check out properties it
says one of two various things. Either "This file is not protected" or "This
file is missing media usage rights." Any clue why I am getting this message
and what settings I can change to fix this. I just bought 4 cd's that I can't
rip to my music library and it's killing me! Thank you!

I'm not sure that the file not being protected is the real issue. I chedked
out properties for other songs I have ripped from cd's I purchased and they
say they are not protected also, but I had no problem downloading those ages
ago.

I am stumped and frustrated.
