Since you still won't say what the program was and you don't say how you
scanned for malware, I have no idea if you've infected yourself. Review the
malware removal steps at the link below.

If you were *not* that thorough, take the time to clean up your machine. If
you were that thorough and your machine really is virus/malware-free try
the steps below from MVP Rick Rogers. Note that if your machine really is
not clean doing the winlogon repair will not solve the underlying issue.
The shell entry may be damaged in the registry. From Task Manager, click
'new task' on the applications tab. Type regedit and click ok. Agree to the
UAC prompt, then expand the branches to reach this one:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Click on the Winlogon key, then on the right find the "shell" string. Double
click it, change the value data to read "explorer.exe" (without the quotes)
and click ok. Then close the registry editor and restart the system by
entering another new task as 'shutdown /r'.
