Greetings,
Well lots of things can make use of the Windows Messenger and prevent you from closing it,
including but not limited to Norton Antivirus, Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook.
If you don't mind losing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard and Application Sharing in Windows
Live Messenger, you can just remove Windows Messenger. To do so, you'll first need to shut
down Windows Messenger. If you can't figure out which application is using it, click Start,
then Run, enter "taskmgr" and click OK. Then click the Processes tab, click the msmsgs.exe
process and choose End Process. Confirm the operation and close the Task Manager.
Next, click Start again, then Run and copy/paste the following:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, check
