Thanks.

I installed office 2000 no problems so I guess office xp would work as
well.

I installed Office XP and everything seems to run properly. I am using Vista
64-bit.

Did you do a search on this group using the word "Office"? I just did and
found over 500 messages. You can read many comments from people running
Office 97, Office 2000, and Office XP on Vista, along with any problems they
might have.

Why not OpenOffice.org? It's free and does the same thing.

Well, if it does the "same thing" why aren't millions running to it and
dropping Office like flies?

Because it doesn't do the same thing. It's getting there, but it has an
uphill battle.

About the only thing which might be problematic would be Outlook

I 've installed Office 2000 on Vista and it seems to run OK, EXCEPT,
Outlook. Don't even bother installing Outlook. You'll just have to go
back, insert you install disk again and delete. I'm now trying to find a
'work around' to save my Outlook data.

FYI, the Vista machine is a new build. The old machine was a PII-400 with
Win ME. I have had no problems with Vista itself. The problems are with
old peripherals and software. For example the Microtek scanner (EPP
parallel port) won't install. The Brother printer (USB) will print, but it
has lost the functions such as Duplex, toner amount, etc. My PaperPort
V5.3 won't work. I bought V11 and it does install, but importing my 5.3
data is a nightmare.

I can't imagine. Lack of promotion, I guess.

IMHO - it surpassed MSOffice when version 2 came out. BTW - have you tried
it?
