Running out of space...why???

Starting yesterday, we started getting messages from SBS2K3 Prem. that the C
drive was running low on space. It only has 10 to 11% space left which I
know is not good for the health of a PC or a server.

What I can't figure out is why all of a sudden we are low on space. The C
drive is an 74GB Raptor drive. I have all the data files (shared company
files, user drive files, Exchange data, etc.) on D drive.

I don't know what to look for to find out what might be taking up all the
space suddenly. I have already gone through the programs that are installed
on the server, and have removed a couple of smaller programs and freed up
about 500MB or so, but not nearly enough to compensate.

Any suggestions and ideas of what I can look at to try to pinpoint what it
might be would be very appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. I recently upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and can no longer use Outlook
Express for Microsoft newsgroups. Can someone recommend a program to use for
Microsoft Newsgroups so I don't have to go to it through a brower?

Thanks.

WinDirStat. Download it. Use it. Visually see your hard drive in a nice
2D, easy to identify space graphic.

Russ,

That's a great program.

It shows that 27,651 MB in Windows, 26,049.3 MB in Program Files, 4,609.5 MB
in files and 1,908.8 MB in Documents and Seetings.

The largest Program is 22,841.4 MB for Trend Micro. wow! I didn't realize
that it's taking so much space. I find that strange. As I click on the +
sign to look at subfolders, when I finally get to AU_Temp folder under Trend
Micro, it has 16,625.2 MB in it! If it's a temp folder, the data can be
deleted, couldn't it?

It's horrible, IMO. It doesn't work over UNC's - so I find it next to
useless in a network environment.

WinDirStat (suggested also) is excellent - has way more options
(including cleanup (delete) options) - and works over UNC paths.

What version of Trend Micro? I have WFBS Advanced 6.0 SP1, and my entire
Trend folder tree takes up 6.75GB on my SBS 2003 SP2 server.

Thank you for your suggestion with that program. It helped me find those
Trend Micro files, and after deleting them, the C drive now has 25.6GB of
free space.

What a relief!

Thanks again!

Well that's nice to hear Russ. The last time I ran up the free version
it didn't support it. It was, admittedly, a while back (year ago?).
I've used WinDirStat and found it superior in many other ways IMO.

Don't get me wrong
TreeSize I don't think it supports UNC

And Using WinDirStat has more options.

however, using WinDirStat
makes me feel old
(Reminds me of the 80's the pac-man thing)
I know I'm old but I'm in denial.

They both give results that would help the OP..
