Runtime error on contact list constantly

Hi,

This has been ****ing me off a lot recently, but now it's getting ridiculous.

I am using WLM 8.1, although the problem also existed on 8.0.

Whenever I open my contact list, a few seconds later I would get this
message come up: http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/6...meerrornx5.jpg
(I'm on XP Pro SP2, not Vista).

“A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to Debug?

Line: 87
Error: Object expected”

This is mad! Wtf is causing that? I tried debugging it with Visual Studio,
and it seems to link to some html/javascript file at http://view.atdmt.com. .
..

Isn't that address associated with spyware or adware? Why is MSN trying to
do this? I am pretty sure my PC is clean.

I just wish I could open my damn contact list without being presented with
this stupid error. Is there a way to disable it from popping up at all? It's
getting on my nerves really badly.

Thank you,

Dominic

Ok! I think I found what the problem is. My firewall, Outpost, blocks
attempts to any ad websites, so it basically eliminates all advertisments
even being downloaded to my pc.

I checked the logs, and each time I open my contact list, it blocks a
connection to the ads and javascript files at atdmt.com

I'm guessing this is what causes the error. Now I have to find a way so that
it doesn't do it for WLM.

This is quite annoying.

Another thing the developer should have thought about and prevented stupid
error messages like this—if it fails to get an advertisment, why attack the
user?

Ok, adding “.atdmt.com” to the Allow List in the ad blocker under Outpost
prevents the error from coming up again.

I hope this helps someone else. It will most likely be applicable to anyone
else who uses ad blockers that block by the connection like Outpost does.

Greetings,

Yep, you nailed that one. The ad window is actually a hosted Internet Explorer window which
is why these applications can mess around with it.
