Runtime error in internet explorer

This is my first time using these communties, so i apologise if my question
seems futile and my knowledge of problems in vista is basic.

I have recently installed vista from using xp, prior to this i installed Ie7
in xp and had a runtime error when opening chatroom applets, as i did not
using Ie6. To remedy this i unistalled Ie7 and reverted back to Ie6 and the
rpoblem went away. Now within vista im getting the runtime error message
when i attempt to open chat applets in Ie7. I have the latest update with
java and still getting the problem, obviously their is no option to install a
previous working version of Ie in vista.

Ive tried various methods of solving this and read through so many similiar
questions within windows communities, but still im none the wiser, and some
responses just seem to go over my head... I did attempt to ask a friend but
his response was "you changed your operating system, you sort it" suffice to
say he wasnt best pleased. All im asking of someone is for plain simplified
instructions of what to do?

Thanx a million for any help.

Which version of Java and how did you install it? Version 6 beta 2 is a
good choice. Use the download option and then run the installer.

Originally it was java version 4, then yesterday version 5, but still same
problem. Had a look on java.com to locate the 6 beta but maybe missed it
somehow, usually i download from java site and install, instead of using the
offline install.

I think you should use the offline install in this case.
The Java 6 beta 2 JRE is on this page
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea.jsp

Hi Andrew, I'm experiencing the same problem as you... no applet button in
vista with java 6. Java 5 causes IE to 'Not Respond' and then you need to
roll back to pre java. hopefully Sun and MS can get this one figured out!
