RW Discs not burning

This is another odd problem for me using Vista Bus 32. I generally b/u
Quicken data to CDRW (- or + doesn't matter).
All of the sudden it keeps telling me insert an empty RW disc. The discs are
new and the same brand I had been using.
I can use the CyberLink s/w that came w/pc to erase the disc.. But if I go
to Computer & try to Format the disc it fails.
I get msg. saying Windows can not complete the format. The driver was
uninstalled/reinstalled. The burner itself was even
replaced. Yet I still have the same problem. HP is suggesting now restore pc
back to factory defaults. I don't know why I need
to wipe the system out for this. Any ideas are appreciated.

BTW, there are no CD+RWs...

I agree with your judgment about the factory reset. Draconian, IMO, and
most likely unnecessary.

Try using an external burner (USB) (or even an internal one, if it's not a
laptop). That would help you eliminate the possibility of OS failure.
Borrow one to save money :-)

Or you could try free CD burner SW as a test - and a workaround if it
works. I like this one: http://cdburnerxp.se/ - but there are others.

Gene,

Thanks for the reply. First I kind of mistyped the +/- thing. I was
referring to CD & DVD.
No matter. HP sent a new drive which even is a Blu-Ray player. It also has
the same kind of odd problem.
If I try to format a disc I get the Windows can't complete msg. For Kodak I
think I'll have to
check w/them why I can't burn to a RW disc, but was able to burn to a CD-R.
I am guessing Quicken will still balk at me too. But I got around that by
using my
external HD. I prob. should have used that from the start.

Anyway the odd thing is as mentioned before, these same discs that I can't
write to this way the
can be erased (at least in theory) using the Cyber-Link suite. Go figure.
