Safe to delete the C:\windows\panther directory?

After upgrading to Windows Vista from Windows XP SP2 I noticed there's a C:\Windows\Panther directory with huge logs files and data files in a 'catalogs' subdirectory - about 1 GB. Is it safe to delete this entire directory or at least some of the files within it?

Thanks,

Sam

Does anyone have a more definitive answer as to whether the c:\windows
\panther directory is needed after successful installation of Vista?
The link below simply searched the newsgroups which I had already
done. None of the found entries state the answer.

Thanks,

Sam

Rename the Panther directory to something else and continue to operate for a
couple of weeks and see if you have any problems.

It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end,
someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them.
