My sisters computer was hogging memory at times over 100MB for one of the svchost.exe processes. So I would end the process and whatever it was would stop and the other necessary services would restart.
At the same time the Microsoft Update would never finish checking the page, and I would have to restart the Windows Update service for that, so that Is when I noticed the two were connected.
I turned off autoupdates and tried doing it manually but the never ending search pattern would continue.
I will try renaming the file like you said.
