Are you basing this off the reports here?
I am curious as to what you believe is "many many"?
I suppose you mean "Automatic Updates"?
What happens when you manually visit
http://windowsupdates.microsoft.com/ ?
What happens if you visit said web site and get only one update - unchecking
all but one...? Reboot.. Everything fine? Do the next ONE... Repeat until
either you get them all or can report which one is causing the issue on your
PC.
