Wherever I turn who ever I talk to ... on the internet its everywhere..
friends, coworkers.... everyone hates vista and has this single question on
their mind:
HOW DO I GO BACK TO XP????!!!!

I have seen several posts here too...
I have concluded that Vista is the most horrific version of windows ever..
by far.. by very far!
If SP1 doesn't do the trick.. (which I really really doubt it will) I am
going to advise everyone to never even touch vista.
Ask for XP on the new computer... THE USERS have the power... they are the
ones who determine the market...
NOT the other way around!
Someone dare told me that "they said the same thing with windows xp"

No they didn't! SOME did.. And I personally never did! This is more like the
ME phenomena... where people are running away from it,
and formating to install the older version of windows
I think MS is trying to force vista down everyone's throats by preinstalling
it on the PC's... some vendors have an option now for
XP or , but most do not...

Just look at what you wrote:

> Someone dare told me that "they said the same thing with windows xp"
>
> No they didn't! SOME did..

Exactly, but now you are in the same grouping on Vista as all those
nay-sayers were for XP.
It does not matter that you were not one of them then - you are now just one
of the "SOME" for Vista.
Note: it is "some" - a few, a tiny minority.
However you want to measure it Vista is not having the scale of problems you
or your friends appear to be having although since you provide no clear
statement of what your problems are (in detail) then no one can make any
judgment call on them and have to put this down as just a random rant.

I suggest clicking on the link "Download DBAN for installation on CD and
DVD media".

I think you have overestimated the power of the consumer.

It was exactly the same with XP.. many programs didn't work and were never
going to work as the authors pulled all support, and the same was true of
some hardware..

Some are upgrading machines which have the absolute minimum spec for running
Vista (please note that Win 98/ME spec was not up to running XP also)..
before upgrading any OS, and this has always been true, the user should
reasonably ensure that everything needed will still work under the new OS..
it is always the users responsibility..

XP machines are still available from Dell and HP under the small business
sections, and they are supplied box only.. screens, keyboards, mice have to
be added to the order and there are no free printers..

Vista works for many more people than you might think, given what is seen in
this newsgroup.. you might also notice that the XP newsgroups are still full
of users with problems, as are Mac and Linux forums..

Re installing hardware, when XP first appeared, it was not possible to
install drivers from the supplied hardware CD because they did not contain
XP drivers.. users had to go to manufacturer websites.. nothing has
changed.. a CD manufactured a year ago is still not going to have Vista
drivers on it.. products are manufactured and boxed for shipment well in
advance of a possible sale, so don't expect this to change any time soon..

Also note that many who come here do find answers and work arounds to many
problems and are using Vista quite happily.. you may consider that you are
doing people a service, but you are not..

Vista will not be right for somebody who has mission critical
software/hardware that will not work in Vista and where the cost of
replacement is not viable or acceptable to the individual user.. to all
others, Vista is ok..

I'm in your camp...

I bought a new Dell (for my home machine) with Windows Vista ultimate so
that I could code software faster with Visual Studio 2005. It's a good thing
that I wasn't still on VS 2003 as Microsoft is not even planning on
supporting that version of their own development software.

I had to download patches to run SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio, and
there are STILL warnings whenever I start up VS.

Now for some reason the Internet is not accessible from IE7, Outlook or
Windows mail. People have been asking me if I installed a 3rd party
firewall. I have not. I have installed Norton AV 2007 with their latest
patches. A full scan reveals no malware (including browser hijackers).

But I have found a solution... called Mozilla.

It turns out that Mozilla Thunderbird can retrieve my email just fine and
FireFox web surfs without a problem, whereas the native Microsoft products
no longer work. Isn't that a hoot?

At the office, in no way am I going to upgrade ANY of the workstations to
Vista. I am staying with XP so that we can all get some meaningful work
done.

Hi Mike,

Take a look at my post back to the TheEnemyWithin.

It's really too bad that Microsoft decided to release Vista before it was
ready for their own development partners. They don't even support VS 2003.
Amazing. All to get the OS out and make a quick buck.

So nobody has been able to tell me why I have lost Internet connectivity in
IE7, Outlook 2007 and Windows Mail.

In order to fix the problem I have downloaded and installed Firefox and
Mozilla Thunderbird which are working just fine. If a 3rd party firewall was
blocking ports, then why would the Mozilla products work for me? I have
scanned for malware.

Even better, when IE7 tells me it cannot connect to a site and I run the
Network Diagnostic from within that error page, I am told that there are no
network problems detected and that I am connected to the Internet (which of
course I knew already).

Not too happy with Vista...and likewise I can't remember having similar
problems with XP.

John

Why does one piece of software work where another doesn't? maybe the way it
has been written? I use NOD32 av, the Vista firewall, sit behind a router
and all three work well.. you have Norton 2007 and whatever else.. so you
tell me why your Outlook, WM and IE7 do not work.. if it was an intrinsic
problem in all three of them, they wouldn't work with anything.. but they
do..

Users of VS have every right to be surprised.. it would appear that there
was little or no communication between the two parties.. however, that does
not mean that Vista is bad.. it just means that upgrading to Vista is not
the best move for everybody presently.. :-)
