Same update again and again

I have a strange problem. I am running windows 2000 Professinal and I have
the admin rights to the machine.
Strane thing happen as the same update keeps coming the
morning and says needs to installed. I have installed it
rebooted and next morning same thing happens. Its the same
update in the right corner near the clock of my computer
with windows update icon saying new updates to install and when you click it
there it is again.

If I go to windowsupdate.com there is nothing to install.
Can someone guide me in the right direction.

I have a comparable problem, though not the same. I have installed 2
essential updates, but each time I visit the Windows Update site, I get them
back as if they're not installed. But the log says that the updates were
succesfully installed.
Now I like to know: Are they really REALLY installed, and what I have to do
to get rid of the notification to install them.

No different for me.... I keep on installing the same updates over and over
again but nothing happens other than getting below error message:

The following items failed to install. To try installing them again, click
Review and install updates, and then click Install Now again.

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB834707)
Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026)
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB841356)
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB840987)
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB841533)

So now that we know it is a common problem who is going to help in solving it?

Security Update for Windows XP (KB873376)I keep on installing the same
updates over and over . why is this happening ? don't get any error messages.

jillo, did you ever figure out what was going on? I have the exact same
problem. KB841356 keeps installing, even after restarts. No other updates
will install, just this one over and over again? Does anyone have any
solutions? I tried deleting the registry key as stated in the Microsoft KB
and I also tried uninstalling in through the Control Panel.

Any Suggestions?
