Same update keeps installing - Windows XP Home

Security Update for Windows XP (KB890046) keeps installing and restarting the
PC. After what appears to be a successful update and re-start, Microsoft
Update reports that it still needs to be installed. This just keeps going
around and around, with the PC continually re-starting if I leave the PC on
Automatic Update.
Temporarily, I have had to hide the uptate, but this is not an ideal solution.
I have tried uninstalling Norton Internet Security, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search
& Destroy and Microsoft Antispyware, but it makes no difference.
The first time that the update installed, I do remember a pop-up message
asking permission to modify the registry. I did not realise that it was
probably related to the Windows update, so this may be the cause of my
problem. However, there is no obvious way to fix this - unless someone can
let me know exactly which registry entry I need to change in order to
convince windows hat the update has been installed.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
