Same updates keep installing Win XP Home

The same 15 updates keeps installing. Each time I restart or start the system
I have a message in the yray telling me that I have updates ready to be
installed. It is always the same 15 updates. My settings in for a home or
small business network keeps changing. Every time I restart the system or
turn the system off and then on again it is set to direct connect to internet
rather than connects through another computer or device as I set it before
restarting.

I am running Win XP Home Edition with automatic updates on.

Can some one please give me a clue as to what may be wrong.
