Firstly apologies for posting here but I know cluster managers have a lot of
SAN experience.
We have a Dell/EMC CX500 which is coming up for 5 years old and Dell have
indicated that they will not support if after that warranty period. This has
come as a major shock as we were planning to expand it. Now we are looking
at having to purchase a new SAN with capacity for future and existing data
and also with the onerous task of migrating our clusters and data to it.
Any comments/experience/recommendations much welcomed.

Regards,

Geejay.

Dell/EMC have software/hardware solutions for accomplishing this
migration...talk with your rep about SANcopy or Open Migrator.

You might also want to review the following written by Russ Kaufmann:

Many thanks, that will be very handing come migration time. I am still
interested hearing peoples opinion and recommendations on the lifecycle
aspect of this issue. 5 years seems a very short time to have to completely
replace and migrate from a very expensive component of the information
architecture as the SAN fabric.

Thanks again,

I am a huge fan of planned obsolescence. We, as administrators, need to plan
the lifecycle of all of equipment including servers, desktops, operating
systems, and applications. The SAN is just one more piece of hardware.

Five years in IT is like 30 years in other industries. I like to think of IT
years as being similar to dog years. When I started in IT back in 1993, NT
3.1 first was introduced. 15 years later, I am thankful that there have been
huge changes. <G>
