Sandisk Cruzer U3 and my USB prot

Help!!! I have been trying to get the photos I saved on my Sandisk Micro
falsh drive to show up on my new computer. I just bought a new computer
(Acer), and I saved the old photos from my old computer onto the flash drive.
I tested to make sure the photos were on the flash drive before I shut down
my old computer, and they were there for sure. I had Windows 2000 before. The
U3 symbol is not coming up on the bottom of the screen, and I can't seem to
locate it anywhere. Thanks.

I think the U3 software is not compatible with Vista. See the SanDisk
website.

Hi Freddy,

Thank you soooo much for responding so quickly. I obssess on things, and I
have been trying for hours to figure this out. You are right...it said
compatible with Windows 2000, SP4, and XP. So, what do I do? Find someone
that has a computer with Windows 2000, XP, or SP4, and put it on a disc and
call it a day?

Tracy,

You hit the nail right on the head! However, you could try running the U3
software in compatibility mode. That is, Vista has the ability to run WinXP
software by configuring itself to run as if it's WinXP. You try doing this
by right clicking the shortcut that launches the U3 and selecting Properties.
There, select the Compatibility tab and choose the WinSP SP-2 mode. If you
run in problems doing this, Vista Help and Support (under the Start icon)
contains more instructions. Keep in mind that the compatibility mode doesn't
work for all legacy applications, but it's worth a try.

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Titanium, and I had to delete the U3 software as it
wasn't Vista compatible yet. Can't you get the photos directly, by opening
the flash-drive though My Computer? Or they encrypted or something?

computer closes everything and begins its shut down process. It does this
with ALL USB devices I've plugged in (iPOd, external WD Hard Drive), it
closes all windows and says shutting down as if I've selected Shut Down from
the Start Menu. Looked under Devices and it appears all USB drivers are
up-to-date and nothing is marked with a problem. Also, my Vista (Im so used
to XP!) says its all up to date...whats going on here???? Brian

This solution has worked for some people with problematic USB devices:

Locate the file INFCACHE.1 in C:\Windows\inf

Right click on the INFCACHE.1 file, select Properties >Security > Edit, and give
your account full control.

Delete INFCACHE.1, or rename it to INFCACHE.1.BAK or temporarily move to your
desktop.

REBOOT

Try plugging in your USB devices again.

Hey, seemed to work. One thing though, I forgot to rename the file or move
it to the desktop like you suggested. What is that for? Anyhow, it works
now! When I plug in a USB device it gives me the whole 'what do you want to
do with this' window/list (which is fine).

Whats the reason for all of this anyhow, is this Vista being
(overly?)cautious regarding devices/hardware? Thanks again, though.

So do I need to go back and rename and/or move that file?

Glad it worked for you.

The function of the file is pretty much unknown, but deleting it very frequently
solves problems like yours.

If you deleted the file, it will not be recreated and you don't need to recreate
it.

If you rename or move the file, you can delete it.
