I'm getting ready to install Vista Ultimate on a computer that has no floppy
drive (A). Does the Vista DVD have the appropriate drivers on the disk or do
I have to figure out a way to install the drivers using F6....

You should download and have available, the drivers for your motherboard
SATA controller. If you need them, you can have them anywhere you can
browse to.

What have you got to lose? Stick the CD into your machine and give it
a try. If it can't find a place to install the system it will tell
you. My machine has no floppy and it installed great right onto my
raid drive.

Vista no longer requires that supplemental disk drivers be on a floppy
diskette - any USB device will do. Start the install and if you need the
drivers you'll know because Vista won't find any hard drives.

Does that include a USB "thumb" drive?

Yes. You can use CD/DVD too.

During setup, you will be advised if there are "no drives" available ...

Some SATA drives may be enabled in RAID or other modes other than AHCI or
legacy ... thus you will need to toss in the F6 mindset (but in this point
in setup, you can install from there).

If you don't want RAID or non-standard modes (depending on board
manufacturer) you will need to boot to bios to make sure AHCI or legayc IDE
mode is on (AHCI preferred).

Yep, that would fit the definition of "any USB device". :-)
