Where to Save Data Files and Folders

Recently I had read (cannot find the print out I made), it was recommended
that data files be initially saved in the user Document folder of Vista,
otherwise there could be some difficulty (I am hoping that I misunderstood
the article!!).

I was considering a specific procedure for saving and backup of files and
folders, such as saving data files to the second internal physical hard
drive through out the day, and then at the end of the day, accomplish a
backup for these daily files to a place on the third internal physical hard
drive. Is there a requirement to initially save files and folders to the
users Document folder?

Thanks for any clarification, Sam.

Don't fall for Microsoft brainwashing. The last place any serious
computer user would put his files would be under documents or anywhere
on the root drive since that obviously would be the first place any
hacker would look to do mischief. The C drive is also the most likely
to crash. If you put all your data files on your root drive and for
whatever reason you have a serious crash, you might be risking your
data as well.

You can save documents or nearly any file for that matter anywhere on
your system you want. Windows and most applications will "remember"
the folder and should save them where you tell it.

I save stuff all over the place. I have 5 internal and 2 external har
drives. But as far as I know you should be able to save anything,
anywhere you want. It may or may not mess with the search function if
you save a document to the music folder. But I havent had any problems
saveing stuff to my own system.

You should'nt probably worry about it and do what I did and setup
things so that "you" know where things are. If you change your system of
fileing your likly to have to search more to find what you want.

There is no requirement. You can save the files anywhere you want, like a
second drive. I have a USB 250GB drive I plug into the machine, and I save
my important files there, including all of the files I have created in the
Documents folders, along with doing direct save of files to the 250GB USB
drive.

Look, if somehow your machine is compromised, then they are going to most
likely be using your user account rights, and they can go anywhere that you
can go -- to hard drives on the machine and everything else.

It's easy to see why your install of Vista Business is so screwed up and
that you're having so many problems with it mr gotemeyer.
In your arrogant stupidity, you think you know more about how to
configure Vista than those who actually wrote and developed it.
It must be a hard lesson for you to learn and accept, cause you daily
fight it tooth and nail.
I guess that someday being wrong will literally be the death of you.

What a fool you are.

You ignorant brain dead stooge. My install isn't screwed up dick
breath, you as usual have no clue how Windows works and simply can't
stand anyone being critical of Microsoft no matter what.

Listen up dipshit. Windows supports drive letter from C through Z.
What does some ****ed in the head moron like you think people use that
capacity for if not to store their data?

The hard lesson you're far too stupid to learn is I easily kick your
**** encrusted ass from one end of this newsgroup to the other daily
every time you are dumb enough to open your mouth. This is example
1,356.
