I'd like to save my folders and settings for windows mail in event of a
crash so that I can set up my mail service as before. I have a few user
accounts and I want to save what I need so that each can be returned to
their previous state. Thank you.

Ed

Each account can be saved by 'exporting' -
Tools > Accounts > select an account > Export >
select any suitable backup location, external disk or whatever.

There is also export for Contacts and Messages under 'File' and an
Export in the Contacts program itself.

'Import' provides the recovery method.

The actual folders are in
C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\

Many third party backup utilities can select data by type and capture
all Windows Mail related items for you.

The settings are in the registry under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail

The account information is now in the message store. See
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx and the section on WinMail.
