Greetings Charles,

For Windows Live Messenger 8.0, you'll need to use a third party application like MSN Backup
from here:
http://www.baisoft.it/msnbackup_english.asp

For Windows Live Messenger 8.1 (beta right now), you can just backup the folder, which is
located at:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\youremail\ObjectStore

Where youremail is your Windows Live ID/Passport e-mail address.

Hi,

When using 8.1 I have several folders besides mine. th3e other have a
subfolder -
--
C:\Documents and Settings\Charles\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\emailaddresss\ObjectStore \DeluxeD
isplayPictures

Does this mean that that contact send me a custom emotion, etc that I saved
so wouldn't I need to copy all files / folders below:

C:\Documents and Settings\Charles\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\

Thank you....

Hi,

The others can be ignored as they're just for specific contact information.

When someone sends you an emoticon, it will only show up in your folder and only if you add
it. Additionally it will go in the Messenger cache (%userprofile%\local
settings\temp\messengercache) but grabbing them from there is even more difficult.
