Ok a while back i was told that WLM automatically saves your custom emoticons
into a folder and was told how to get to the folder and get the emoticons.
Well my emoticons are no longer in that folder for me to get out and save for
safe keeping. So how can i save my custom emoticons if i dont have the
actual file?

Greetings,

Which folder are you looking in and have you upgraded to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 (beta
right now)?

Yes i have WLM 8.1 Beta. What i was told is to go to Start - Run - type in
%appdata% click on Microsoft folder then click on MSN Messenger folder and
there would be a bunch of folders that are numbered. You have to find out
which folder is to your Messenger ID and that all your stuff was stored in
there. I did that my stuff used to be stored in the folder that was supposed
to be with my ID but they arent anymore. I basically just wanna know how i
can save custom emoticons to my computer that come from other people.
Because i can only save them to MSN and not to my computer for safe keeping.

Hi,

That's the folder for WLM 8.0, it has changed in 8.1.

The new folder is can be found by doing the same process but use this folder instead:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger

Then just click your Passport/Windows Live ID address, then ObjectStore and then
CustomEmoticons.

Hi,

It's the same as before, but the files you're interested in are the .dt2 ones. You'll have
to rename them-- .PNG for static emoticons and .GIF for the animated ones.
